Amazon River Cruise Tour Itinerary

Day 1: The Three Frontiers, Monkeys & Jungle Immersion

Your Amazonian expedition begins bright and early. We will pick you up at 7:00 AM directly from your hotel (for the smoothest logistics, we highly recommend booking accommodation in the center of Leticia).

  • The Three Frontiers: Our boat cruise kicks off by navigating to the «imaginary point» where Colombia, Peru, and Brazil meet. This is a unique geographical landmark where you can see three nations simultaneously from the middle of the mighty river.
  • Monkey Island (Isla de los Micos): We continue navigating upstream to this famous nature reserve. Here, you will have the chance to walk among and interact with hundreds of playful squirrel monkeys in their natural habitat.
  • Lunch & Giant Lotus Flowers: We stop at a natural park for a traditional lunch. Afterward, we will observe the majestic Victoria Amazonica (giant lotus flowers), one of the Amazon’s most iconic plant species.
  • Puerto Nariño: Our journey takes us to the eco-village of Puerto Nariño. We will explore this peaceful town—known for having no cars—and learn about its sustainable culture and architecture.
  • Jungle Trekking & Night Safari: As evening falls, we head deep into the forest. We will embark on a jungle trekking experience followed by a night safari walking expedition. This is your chance to hear the jungle come alive and spot nocturnal wildlife, insects, and tarantulas.

Here is the optimized itinerary for Day 2. I have maintained the same structure as Day 1 for consistency, highlighting the exclusive visit to the Atacuari region and the famous Tarapoto Lakes.

Day 2: The Edge of Colombia, Pink Dolphins & Tarapoto Lakes

After a local breakfast in Puerto Nariño, we embark on a journey to the furthest reaches of the Colombian Amazon.

  • The Atacuari River & The Border: We navigate upstream to the Atacuari River, a natural boundary that marks the final frontier of Colombia. Here, you will visit the southernmost point of the country, where Colombia shares a river border with Peru.
  • 7 de Agosto Community & Dolphins: We cross over to visit the native community of 7 de Agosto. This area is world-renowned for its biodiversity. It is one of the best spots to observe both Pink and Grey River Dolphins playing in the wild.
  • Cultural Lunch: You will enjoy a traditional lunch hosted by the community, offering a moment of genuine cultural exchange and rest.
  • Tarapoto Lakes Expedition: We return towards Puerto Nariño to explore the Tarapoto Lakes, a protected Ramsar wetland site. Here, we will engage in piranha fishing and explore the calm waters surrounded by gigantic trees.
  • Sunset & Overnight: To end the day, we will float on the lakes to witness a breathtaking Amazonian sunset, reflecting off the mirror-like water. We then head back to Puerto Nariño for a restful night’s sleep.
Day 3: Sloths, Culture & The Brazilian Frontier

On our final day, we cross the Amazon River once more to immerse ourselves in wildlife and cross the border into Brazil.

  • San Antonio de Cacao & Sloths: We navigate across the river to visit the native community of San Antonio de Cacao. This island ecosystem is famous for its wildlife; here, we will have the unique opportunity to spot sloths in their natural habitat and interact with the local families to understand their way of life.
  • Lunch with the Community: We will share a traditional farewell lunch hosted by the community of San Antonio, enjoying fresh local flavors one last time.
  • Return to Leticia & Tabatinga (Brazil): After lunch, we navigate back to Leticia. From there, we cross the border (seamlessly) into the Brazilian city of Tabatinga.
  • The Best Amazon View: We will take a city tour of Tabatinga, culminating at the region’s most famous viewpoint. This spot offers the best panoramic view of the Amazon River across the three countries—the perfect photo opportunity to end your expedition.
  • Conclusion: The tour concludes around 5:00 PM, leaving you with unforgettable memories of Colombia, Peru, and Brazil.
